The Khorgo volcano is a beautiful place located in the Terkh valley, on the northern slopes of the Khangai Mountains. A dozen extinct volcanoes are spread over a fairly small area. A powerful layer of lava has blocked the Terkh river bed, forming the Terkh-Tsagaan lake on an area of 28 km² at an altitude of 2,060 m.

In the Khorgo - Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Nature Park, two forces of nature meet: the Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and the extinct volcano Khorgo. Known as the "White Lake of the Terkh River", this body of water rises to an altitude of two thousand metres and is bathed in an almost mystical atmosphere. All around the lake, you will find numerous craters of volcanoes that are now silent.

Most of them were created by the volcanic eruption of Mount Khorgo. It is also possible to climb to the top of the mountain to admire its basalt-covered crater. The Mongolians often go to this park to fish.

The undulating sands, which can be up to 7 km wide and 80 km long, stretch from north to south. The Tarnyn Gol River flows beneath it, contributing to the abundant vegetation growth on the dunes. It originates in the Khogno Khan massif, only a few kilometres from the dunes.
